Its my Etsyversary! (Giveaway Time!)

I listed my first item on Etsy around September 15, 2009. Its already been a year . . . and what a year its been! I've learned listing strategies, started using twitter, learned about and complied with CPSIA guidelines, discovered that I don't make enough to be a business (great news at tax time . . . lol!), bought too much yarn, made tons of friends, started my fan page, and bought lots of homemade goodies! Its been super fun! I can't wait to see what this year brings!

In addition, there will be extra listings this week, sales, and more! Ready to enter the giveaway? Here's how. (each option is worth one entry - please comment with each entry)

A baby gift . . .

Some of you know, its the year of the baby in my extended family . . . so many babies! I think (haven't heard for sure - other than they were being induced!) that my cousin and his wife had a new baby boy last week! They live in a place known for cold winters, so I made him this little hat.

Love, love, love little baby hats!

For Triplets . . .

When my facebook friends heard about my new tiny twin nieces, they came out in full force with words of encouragement. One even found some hand-me-down preemie clothes for the little ones (who knew preemie clothes were so hard to find?!?). To thank the woman who is donating clothing that belonged to her triplets, I've made a set of booties for them!
For a boy . . .
For another boy . . .

And for her girl!

awww . . . I can just imagine all those little feet . . . man, that's a lot of baby! Thank you!

The Whale Beanie

I've had an idea to put a whale on a sun hat, and i got the perfect opportunity to practce my whale stitching skills on this custom order!
The whale has a hand stitched grin, eye, and spout of water.
Light blue with white stripe and edging to add interest to the body of the hat.

Thanks for having me make this, Meagan!

Etsy Sweethearts - Wee Bee Uniques by Julie

Remember I told you I'd been the lucky recipient of some unexpected and very sweet gifts from my new friends? Well, Julie of Wee Bee Uniques had me pick out a couple favorites from her shop as a gift to Big Mac! She also sent shedding snakes for Crazy Pants, but he must love them a lot because he hid them from me and won't let me take a picture. lol! Here's my baby in his brown bear hat with orange stripes . . .
This is only his fourth or fifth time trying on a hat, so forgive the confused expression!
And this is the photo prop hat we picked. Isn't it sooooo cute? Big Mac has an extraordinary noggin (96th percentile!) and my hubby loves these hats so much, he told me not to hand them down to another baby, but keep them for the next. He's a fan of Julie's now for sure!

You can check out Julie's work on facebook:
Or on Etsy:
Please do drop by! She does amazing work and is so very kind!

Giveaway Item - Flower Booties!

I had that fun giveaway for reaching 500 fans and now have enough progress on the custom orders to start making the prizes for the winners now and then. The first winner choose baby booties in pink and white, so I thought it would be fun to try a new idea I had . . .
What do you think of the flowers as toe tops? I think I like them.
Otherwise, they're just like the booties I've been making, with the addition of and extra touch of color around the bottom to tie the flower in.

Etsy Baby Gifts - Lilikin's

If you've been holding out on buying or selling on Etsy, wondering if it would be a good experience, let me tell you, for the most part, everyone on Etsy is sweet, kind, and a pleasure to deal with! Case in point - the Etsy welcome for Big Mac! I will be posting his gifts as I get around to it and as the summer heat permits! (Lots of hats for Big Mac!)
Not only was I a participant in the Etsy Baby Shower, but some sellers spontaneously decided to welcome Big Mac by sending sweet handmade lovlies.
My sweet friend at Lilikin's http://lilikin14.etsy.com sent two of these SUPER ADORABLE diaper burp cloths for him!
The diaper makes the burp cloth extra soft and absorbant, and, as you can see, its big enough for the biggest baby oopsies!

I always love going to her shop to see what's new . . . she picks the most adorable fabrics in the world! In her shop, you'll find quilts, lovies, recieving blankets, burp cloths, and drawstring bags. Pay a visit! She also has a facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/Lililikins.Baby.Blankets.and.Quilts?ref=ts

Baby Gift

This is a big summer (and fall!) for having babies in my extended family! waiting for my own baby can be a little . . . frustrating . . . so crochet has been a good distraction! I was able to finish this set for my cousin's baby, scheduled to arrive the first week of July!

The baby's momma requested blue and brown, so I stitched up this 0-3 month size set.

Brown cotton baby shoes with ankle straps, blue buttons, and verigated toe tops.

Blue cotton visor sun hat with verigated band and brown accents.
Hopefully she likes it!

Etsy Baby Shower!

Those of you who see my posts on Facebook may have heard about Etsy Baby Shower. Its a fun little, well, baby shower for Etsy users! If you use Etsy, are expecting, and have made at least 5 Etsy purchases, you can recieve 4 baby gifts from participating Etsy sellers with big hearts and talented hands! I am one of the summer recipients. I got some amazing items I plan to photograph and blog, and will do so after baby arrives! (More fun to have pictures with baby in them!) I also decided to be a participating shop and offered to do two baby gifts. I got assigned to give two gifts, one for a boy, one for a girl, for a momma to be of TWINS! I've been crazy busy filling orders before baby, but she's been so sweet and patient and the hats are done! I just need to package them up and take them to the box. Here's what they look like!
They're both 100% cotton sun hats and slightly smaller than my standard newborn size (becuase twins are tiny when they make their appearance!) but they should fit the babies for 3 months or more. Crochet stretches. :)
This is the boy one . . . . it's bright blue with a verigates yellow, blue, and green band with green borders.
Up close shot of the visor part. :)
Here is the girl hat! I used the same green for borders because I wanted them to "go together" without being too matchy. This one is bright pink with a pink, orange, yellow, and green band. I also added a yellow flower and ruffle brim.

These were so fun to plan and make! If you're interested in being a recipient or participating shop for Etsy Baby Shower, check out http://etsybabyshower.blogspot.com . It is so fun!

Starfish on the Beach!

When I made my first starfish hat, I really thought it was a risk. My hubby thought it looked weird. But it has been my most popular hat! Even overshadowing the ladybug hat! Here are a couple off-Etsy hats I've completed . . . .

This first one is for my friend at http://lilikin14.etsy.com in a 12 to 18 month size.

She request the "top secret" buttons. :) (I've had to remove them from hats for children under 3 years due to federal regulations . . . if you get buttons on a hat for your tot, just be sure to check for loose ones before handing the hat over. My son wears his button hat a lot and we've yet to loose a button!)

This one is for my cutie pie nephew. I made it for his first birthday, which is actually this weekend, but since they were on vacation at the beach last week, he got it early. :)
I can do any color of starfish. So far the most popular are the red and orange. I've done a purple one as well (you waterfront folks know that purple ones are actually pretty common!)

One Month to Go!

My official due date is June 12 . . . one month to go! I'm so excited! This post will fill you in on how I'll keep shop while I'm in the hospital, and how you can expect things to change when I bring my new baby home!
Will Mo and Ozzy on Etsy be put in vacation mode? No. I need to be distracted as I near my due date or I go to the hospital and get sent home a lot. :) It will stay open because I probably won't want to jump on the computer real quick before getting in the car to go to the hospital and have my baby.
What if I purchase something, custom order something, or convo you about my order while you're in the hospital? I'll only be in the hospital 3 days. I'll get back to you as soon as I get out! If I get too bored, I might even get back to you while I'm still there!
I've been planning to custom order something. Am I too late? No, but the sooner the better! If I'm working on your order and go into labor, your order will take longer than usual.
Will you take custom orders still after you have the baby? Yes. The time table will be different, though. Now I can complete a custom order in 2 days to a week at the most. After the baby comes, you should expect most custom orders to take one to two weeks.
How will your Etsy shop be different after the baby is born? You may notice a decrease in the number of new items added to the shop, since I'll be busy with twice the number of boys I had before!
How long after you have the baby will it be before you can ship out orders? If the item is ready to ship, it will still go out ASAP. I will have lots of helpers at my house who can run packages to the post office for me.

If you have other questions, please comment and I'll answer them for you. Thanks for the kind wishes and support!

Lilikins - Weekend Wonder

I know. Baby stuff? Again? Well, its getting to be that time! Besides, I really HAVE to feature this shop . . . . I tell her how much I love the things she makes about every day on Facebook. :)
Lilikins Handmade One of a Kind Baby Blankets are just so PRETTY. I've seen a lot of baby blankets and burp cloths on Etsy, but they usually only require a Wal Mart Clearance rack and as much sewing skill as I have (not much) to make yourself. These blankets feature thoughtfully selected fabrics and GREAT sewing (I can even tell from the pictures!)

This first set is so pretty . . . I'm as much a sucker for little girl things as any female in her late 20's, but all that pink would get a little obnoxious after a while. I adore the colors paired with the distinctly all-girl print.
http://www.etsy.com/listing/32687205

I love this set so much. I think its because my mother always had a few and loved, loved, LOVED those old readers from the 50's and 60's. (Think Dick and Jane) This set would be arodable for a little girl or boy and has such a fun retro appeal.

This quilt is so stinking cute . . . I want one for MY bed! I just adore how cute the fabrics are together and how its laid out . . . . too cute.

Here's the link to Lilikins shop - http://www.etsy.com/shop/Lilikin14
Be sure to stop by and ooh and ahh a little.

Custom Sun Hats

My friend from Claire's Bowtique has 3 fun boys and one sweet baby girl, so she ordered these sun hats to help keep them cool and shady this summer! Each hat is 100% cotton with the exception of the red starfish on each starfish hat. The acrylic yarn makes a much more interesting starfish for some reason. :)

Ladybug sun hat sized for 9 - 15 months.

Starfish sun hat for 12-24 months.

Starfish sun hat for 4 - 6 years

Starfish sun hat for 6-8 years.

All three little boy sun hats lined up. So fun!
Thanks for having me make these for your adorable family!
Be sure to visit Claire's Bowtique on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Allegan-MI/Claires-Bowtique/191942987248 ! There are fun hair bows, flip flops, tutus, shirts, onsies, and more! Amiee can even customize an item to match your favorite hat from my shop . . . she's very talented!

Posy Moe - Weekend Wonder!

I discovered this shop, Posy Moe http://posymoe.etsy.com when they started to follow me on twitter. I confess, I don't click every link to every new item, but since I'm expecting, I was curious about the Pippa Slippers . . . . and here they are! So cute!
http://etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=39017393
I knew this shop had to be a feature on my blog one of these days! Here's a little background. A momma, her three daughters, and the momma's friend, a jewelry designer, all contribute to this shop . . . so its like a mini craft fair inside the ginormous craft fair that is Etsy.com. Now, before you all decide to run screaming from my blog full of baby stuff, lets show you a pretty for grown ups, shall we?
They carry a few bags and clutches in this felted series, but I L O V E the tote bag. I think it is simple, bright, and happy. Don't you think about spring when you look at it?
http://etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=39020438
I do!

Now, some of you may think I'm just into cheap yarn because there is so much acrylic and cotton in my shop. Well, a couple reasons for that. One, its a safe bet for kids who may be allergic to other fibers, but mostly reason two. It is SO BEAUTIFUL and my shop isn't to the point yet that I can indulge in stacks of hand spun or hand painted lovliness. Here is a sample of some hand painted merino in Peppermint that I think is so pretty!
http://etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=33631918

They even have a blog, so I'll add that to my list of crafty blogs right away so you can see the pretty there too!

*Feeling left out? Just let me know in the comments that you're dreaming of a blog feature and I'll be sure to look at your shop and consider it too. Thanks!

Essie Designs - Weekend Wonder!

Ok, so this shop is very successful and has had a lot of sales, so I promise to feature more of an undiscovered talent next week, but I couldn't resist! Maybe its the pregnancy, but I ADORE this stuff and find it SUPER reasonable . . . .So check it out!

http://www.etsy.com/shop/Essiedesigns
Essie Designs is really Becky from Fresno, California. She loves her some fabric and works hard to make affordable, super nice things for the new mommy! And let me tell ya, that new mommy with her unwashed hair and smudgy mascara could really use some pretty in her day! I've so been there . . . .

So, lets look at a few of my favorites. First up, this "Wet Bag" or waterproof bag. Yeah, the moms have already come up with about 50 uses for this thing, and the best part? Its PRETTY! She has lots of really gorgeous fabrics to choose from!
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=39384914

Another very important item - the nursing cover. I'm a breastfeeding supporter for sure, but I'm not comfortable showing off so much, so when in public, these come in handy! I like nursing covers better than blankets becuase my kid would always pull them down. This lets light in AND even allowes for you to have some eye contact with that cute little bundle. I love, love, love the assortment of pretty fabrics too!
And if your baby does not love the tummy time . . . or you're chasing the other kids . . . or just would love the use of both hands, baby wearing is a very popular option. More pretty fabrics and reversable too, these slings are so affordable. I know, I've shopped!
So, if you're expecting, expecting to be expecting, or know someone who has a new little one, you should SO check out this shop! Got my wish list started already!
